Arkema is a multi-national company working in the field of Specialty Chemicals. The company was created in 2004, as a spin-off of Total, a major company with activities in the fields of oil extraction, refining, distribution, and petrochemistry. Since 2004, Arkema has focused into industrial, and specialty chemicals, as represented by its three activity poles: High Performance Materials (HPM), Industrial Specialties (IS), and Coating Solutions (CS). At present, Arkema is considered as one of the 100 most innovative companies in the world (Thomson-Reuters list of the 100 most innovative companies in the world). In 2013, Arkema’s sales reached c. 6,5 billion Euros. The company employs 14 000 people in 40 countries, and operates 85 industrial facilities. Arkema, and its subsidiaries account for 10 R&D centers worldwide. The three activity poles include, each, several Business Units: Specialty Polyamides, Fluoropolymers, CECA (Road, and Oil Additives), Functional Additives (for plastics), within the HPM pole; Thiochemistry, Fluorinated Gases, Altuglas International (PMMA), Hydrogen Peroxide, within the IS pole; and Acrylic Monomers, Coating Resins, Sartomer (UV Coatings), Coatex (Waterborne Polymeric Additives), within the CS pole.

Key Persons

Dr. Manuel Hidalgo holds a degree in Chemical Engineering (1987) from the National University of Mexico (U.N.A.M.), and is a Ph. D. in Macromolecular Materials, and Composites (1992) from the University of Lyon I, France. He has more than 20 years of industrial experience in the field of polymers, and was Associated Professor at the Faculty of Chemistry at UNAM. He is author of 2 book chapters, inventor or co-inventor in more than 50 published patents, and co-author of near 30 papers, all in the field of Polymer Science.

 

 

 

Dr. Ian Cayrefourcq holds an engineer degree in Material Science, a Master degree in Solid Physics and a PhD in Microelectronics. After 15 years in the semiconductor industry holding various positions within R&D organisations, he joined Arkema in 2011 as Scientific Director in charge of Renewable Energy and Electronics. Dr. Cayrefourcq owns more than 20 patents and is author or co-author of more than 70 publications.
